I wanted to be an air hostess when I grew up. I wanted to fly around the world.
My older brothers were Policemen, and my sisters were nurses. Mum was really proud. The youngest of my brothers and I carved out different pathways. Less traditional, but Mum was still proud.
As I worked my way through different adventures, an opportunity came to work for a major airline, not in the air but on the ground.
But then something happened.
I remember listening to my manager and thinking, ‘What the heck are you talking about ’. It was all blah, blah, blah. I took it not knowing my job, but it was full-time hours!
I was now the safety coordinator.
I learnt quickly. I was training, supporting my team, and introducing standards and systems to keep our passengers and the team safe.
I travelled the country, and I travelled the world.
More than 20 years later, my focus is still on keeping people safe.
